Privacy Policy
Last Updated: November 7, 2024
Introduction
Welcome to Scorely! We believe in complete transparency about what data we collect and why. Your privacy and trust are everything to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Scorely ("we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use our mobile application (the "App").
TL;DR - The Short Version
We DO NOT collect any Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
We only collect anonymous usage analytics to understand which games to add next and improve your experience. You can disable this anytime in Settings.
What We DON'T Collect
We DO NOT collect any Personally Identifiable Information (PII). PII means any information that could identify you as an individual. Specifically, we DO NOT collect:
- Your real name or player names you enter in the app
- Email addresses or contact information
- Your location, address, or geographic data
- Device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV) or phone numbers
- Payment or financial information
- Photos, contacts, camera access, or personal files
- Social media accounts or profiles
- Health or biometric data
- Any other personal information that could identify you
What We DO Collect
We collect anonymous, aggregated usage data to improve Scorely and understand what features matter most to our community. This includes:
- Game Usage: Which games you play most often (e.g., Catan, Ticket to Ride)
- Player Counts: How many players typically join your games (e.g., 2-4 players)
- Game Duration: How long games usually last
- Feature Usage: Which app features are used most (e.g., score tracking, templates)
- App Performance: Crashes, errors, and technical issues (to fix bugs)
- Device Information: iOS version, device model (for compatibility testing)
- Session Data: App opens, screen views, and basic navigation patterns
Important: All data is completely anonymous and aggregated. We cannot trace any data back to you as an individual. We use Firebase Analytics, which respects user privacy and does not collect PII.
Why We Collect This Data
Your anonymous usage data helps us:
- Prioritize New Games: Add games based on community interest and demand
- Fix Bugs: Identify and resolve technical issues quickly
- Improve Features: Enhance the features you actually use
- Optimize Performance: Ensure smooth gameplay for your group size
- Keep Scorely Free: Maintain a free, ad-free experience for everyone
Built by a Team of One
As a solo developer, this anonymous data is invaluable for understanding what the board game community wants. Every data point helps make Scorely better for families and friends everywhere.
Your Data Controls
Opt-Out of Analytics
You can disable analytics collection at any time:
- Open Scorely
- Go to Settings → Privacy
- Toggle "Share Anonymous Analytics" off
When disabled, we will stop collecting any usage data from your device. You can re-enable this anytime if you'd like to help improve Scorely.
Data Storage
All game data (scores, player names, game history) is stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data, and it never leaves your device unless you:
- Use iCloud backup (handled by Apple, not us)
- Use Bluetooth multiplayer to share with nearby devices
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
Firebase Analytics (Google)
We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage data. Firebase is configured to not collect PII and respects user privacy settings. For more information:
BoardGameGeek (BGG)
Scorely integrates with BoardGameGeek to display game information, news, and community content. When you use the News or Explore features, requests are made to BGG's public API. These requests do not include any personal information from you.
Apple Services
Scorely uses standard Apple frameworks and services including:
- iCloud: Optional backup of your game data (controlled by your device settings)
- StoreKit: For in-app reviews (no payment processing)
- Multipeer Connectivity: For Bluetooth multiplayer (local only, no servers)
Data Security
We take data security seriously:
- All data stored on your device uses iOS security features
- Analytics data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS)
- We do not maintain any servers that store your personal data
- Anonymous analytics are stored securely by Firebase with industry-standard protections
Children's Privacy
Scorely is designed for families and includes an age verification system. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since we don't collect PII from anyone, we inherently comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) requirements.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with information inappropriately, please contact us at ScorelyApp@gmail.com.
International Users
Scorely is available worldwide. Anonymous analytics data may be processed in the United States through Firebase/Google servers. This data is anonymous and cannot be linked to you personally.
GDPR Compliance (EU Users): If you are in the European Union, you have rights under GDPR including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. Since we don't collect PII, there is no personal data to access or delete. You can opt-out of anonymous analytics in Settings → Privacy.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will notify you of any material changes by:
- Posting the new Privacy Policy in the app
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page

Your continued use of Scorely after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
